Vegetable Farming Boosts Nutrition and Income in Sanzawa Ward

Following the installation of a solar-powered irrigation system, community members in Birise Village and Sanzawa Ward have established thriving vegetable gardens that provide both household nutrition and income throughout the year.

Farmers are now growing tomatoes, onions, spinach, and other vegetables that were previously unavailable during dry seasons. The surplus produce is sold at local markets, generating income that helps families pay school fees and meet other household needs.

Over 120 farming families have directly benefited from the small-scale vegetable irrigation schemes supported under the UNDP-GEF SGP-funded Climate Change Adaptation project by VESO.
